Description

The Evergreen Rideshare Website project is to create a database-driven web application that would allow students and employees of TESC to find carpool partners to school as well as one-time rides in Olympia and beyond.

This product would benefit the Evergreen community by doing the following:

1) Provide students and employees with a method to facilitate ridesharing to campus and beyond. This would not only reduce their commute costs, but also impact the costs Evergreen spends annually on parking construction, administration and upkeep.

2) Enable us to better comply with state CTR laws requiring us to reduce the number of single-occupant trips to campus by full-time employees (see our website at www.evergreen.edu/commute for more information).

The project would entail scripting and potentially database work. The simplest incarnation of this concept could be something similar to http://seattle.craigslist.org/rid/.

Additionally, GIS technology could be integrated to allow the software to map a user

Expectations

This is a relatively short term project in that it could be as simple as the students decide it should be. As mentioned in the description above, the project could become as complex as they would like it, perhaps including Evergreen records databases and GIS technology.

What proposer can provide for Evergreen

This project would provide students with a chance to develop a superior product to those existing on the market that serves the noble causes of reducing the pollution, stress and expense associated with driving alone.

Additionally, students would be working on something that directly impacts their own community, and be able to take pride in the success of the project.

Reasons to collaborate

Because we are an office on campus comprised of students and staff, and we are committed to both supporting and practicing Evergreen's core value of a multidisciplinary approach to learning and doing.
