Description
The project would provide website and technology assistance to non-profit organizations in developing countries. The websites would help non-profits to gain support for their work, resulting in a better ability to help the disadvantaged communities they support.
This website support project is already established and managed by the Northwest based, non-profit organization, InterConnection, www.interconnection.org. InterConnectionExpectations
Long range, we have been exploring the feasibility of creating an onsite website development assistance program. Many organizations that request website support do not have the skills or tools to collect and prepare appropriate website materials, primarily text and photos in a digital format. The website assistance program would send volunteers abroad who would help organizations with gathering website materials and planning the website
What proposer can provide for Evergreen
This would be an exciting and engaging project for students. It would not only give them a chance to improve their website design and development skills, it would also give them a chance to learn about different cultures and communicate with groups from all parts of the world.
InterConnection is a growing organization that has established partnerships with internationally known development organizations like Digital Partners and World Resource Institute. Collaborating with InterConnection would result in an opportunity for Evergreen University to showcase the capabilities and interests of its students.Reasons to collaborate
The demand for our service is increasing as a result of favorable word of mouth and press. We
Addendum
Projects:
As stated in our initial proposal, InterConnection provides volunteer made websites for non profit organizations in developing countries. Volunteers have provided over 70 websites and requests arrive daily from non profits in need all over the world. (see interconnection.org/ngo ) Since your student projects focus on web pages and web applications, it seems that a collaboration between IC and CISPP would be a perfect match.
Each student or groups of students could be assigned the task of providing a website for a non profit. Students could create new websites for groups without them or update existing websites with databases.
For instance, students could help the following organizations develop database capabilities for the websites we provided:
www.volunteerkenya.org - Inter-community Development Involvement, Kenya
Mission: To fight AIDS, build libraries and pre-schools, encourage micro-enterprise for women and provide health care for the people of Western Kenya without regard to religion, politics, ethnicity or nationality.
